The Summer Ride

I rode 36 miles yesterday and didn’t even realize it. A friend and I went out for a leisure ride, which turned into a ride to a little cafe, which turned into a ride to meet other friends at a tavern. At midnight, having put in 35 of those 36 miles, I found myself chuckling over how unexpectedly enjoyable the whole evening had been… especially given that I was in a t-shirt and shorts and relatively comfortable right then. Granted, it wasn’t a kind of warm-at-midnight typical of tropical or humid areas (I’m looking at you, East Coast, Midwest and South)… but it was above 60, I know that.

The warm weather has inspired all kinds of people to get out riding, which has definitely put more than a few smiles on my face. Just yesterday morning, I saw another bike commuter riding along my route—at least in that particular stretch, it was the first time I’d seen such. The train had a good number of cyclists on it. At work, the locker room was teeming. Bikes everywhere throughout the entire day.

This is one of the reasons I love summer.
