Unsent Letter to Spring

Dear Spring,

Make up your fucking mind.

–Me

Rode the One Way today for the first time in a week. I really need to get the same saddle on both bikes; my ass can’t handle the frequent changes. While cleaning up the bikes last night, I noticed how out-of-true the front wheel was on the One Way (almost as bad as the rear wheel). Checking the tension on the spokes, I found five that were pitifully loose. I really can’t wait to get the new wheels built.

The sad thing is that I’ve already begun mentally piecing together the One Way’s replacement… a Surly Karate Monkey set up as a single with discs, flat bars and rigid fork. I may change my mind if the new wheels, brakes and levers meet my needs on the One Way. We’ll see.

I never thought I would like either 29ers or single speeds until I tried out a Karate Monkey with a rigid fork. They’re not exactly ready for any single track out here, but they roll around urban stuff like a dream. That one had a slight rise on the bars and Juicy Fives.

Do it. I can’t afford one, so let me live vicariously through your commute.

I appreciate the link. I’ve been enjoying your blog.
I’m not sure what I am going to do once spring actually gets here myself. I am so bundled up in the mornings that I’m not even sure what to wear if the sun is actually out when I leave work.

Casey–that’s pretty much the build I’ve got in mind. It won’t be cheap, so if things work out with the One Way, the Monkey may live on as just an idea.

Robert–Been enjoying your blog as well. Congrats on the 300k!! Tell me about the monring/afternoon clothing conundrum… I’ve been carrying a bigger bag simply so I have enough room for stuff in the afternoon.
