Comforts

without comments

My legs are toasted.

When I stand, that haunting ache flares up and I start thinking about May… about my goals… about my motivations. I pedal through the ache. I think about recovery. I think about comforts.

I think “Tomorrow will be a rest day… only a couple miles.” But I know tomorrow will come and I’ll look at the One Way and then the Double Cross and I’ll think about which one I want to ride more. I’ll grab the Double Cross and I’ll ride more miles than I know I should, because the day was supposed to be a rest day… but the riding is getting better and better.

Daytime is expanding. Recovery time is contracting.

I watched an interesting example of human behavior on the train the other morning: a guy refusing to make room to allow another person to sit. No other seats were open, and the guy hid behind his cell phone and a few pointed gestures of refusal. C made it his mission to rebuff this act of defiance against common courtesy and squished his way into the seat. I couldn’t help but laugh.

I also find comfort in humor…
